Lord
shiva pooja :
According
to Hindu culture, it is advised to not
keep a ‘ shivlinga’ in a place where it is not regularly worshipped with proper
rituals, as showing disrespect to his symbol may anger the lord. It is said
that lord shiva or bholenath is very innocent and may get pleased in no time.
But his anger too is well-renowned.
Lord
shiva’s favorite ?
It
is extensively acknowledged fact that lord shiva believes in living a simple
life with bare necessities, and the things that he cherishes the most are dhatura
fruit, bael leaves , bhang, ice-cold milk, sandalwood paste, and bhasma.
Worshipping lord shiva with these not only appeases him, but impresses all the
gods as well.
Never offer these 5 things to Shivlinga :
However,
as per shivpuran, a devotee must never worship the shivlinga with these five
following offering or else bear the dreaded consequences.
- Ketaki Flowers:
One
day lord Vishnu and lord brahma stood in a battle to prove their supremacy using deadly weapons each other. lord shiva
appeared in form of lingam between the
lord Vishnu and lord brahma and ordered
them to find origin and end and lord Vishnu went to bottom and could not find
it and lord Vishnu accepted his defeated. Lord brahma went to origin and could
not find it and he asked ketaki flower to lie that he found origin and lord
shiva got anger due to false statement and cutted one of the head of lord brahma and cursed brahma not to be worshipped
as lord and also cursed ketaki flower
not be used in shiva pooja.
- Thulasi leaves :
According
to legends in shivpurana, an asura named
jalandhar was killed and burned to ashes by lord shiva. Jalandhar was blessed with a boon that depend on her
wife’s chastity to remain undefeated by gods. So, lord Vishnu had to breach
jalandhar’s wife tghulashi’s chastity. Upset over her husband’s death and
angered by this betrayal. Thulashi banished lord shiva from being worshipped by
her divine leaves.
- Coconut water :
Though
one can offercoconuts to lord shiva, but must never worship shivlinga with
coconut water. Everything offered on shivlinga is considered as nirmalaya, thus
forbidden from being consumed. And , as consuming coconut water after being
offered on deities is considered as mandatory to drink, it is thus not offered
on shivlinga.
- Turmeric powder :
The
sacred turmeric powder must never be offered to shivlinga, as the former is
considered to enhance the beauty of females. And, shivlinga is a symbol of lord
shiva.
- Kumkam :
Kumkam or sindoor is believed to be sacred for married Indian women ; as they apply it to seek the long life of their spouse. But, as lord shiva is the supreme destroyer, worshipping his symbol with kumkum is not considered auspicious.
