ABOUT CHATURTHI
NAKSHTRAM:
Every lunar month in
hindu calendar has two chaturthi tithi days. One comes after pournami/ full
moon day during Krishna paksha is known as Sankashti chaturthi and another day
comes after Amavasya/no moon day during shukla paksha is known as vinayaka
chaturthi.And skankashti chaturthi vratham fasting is followed on every month
of these tithi day.
If Sankashti chaturthi
falls on Tuesday it is considered to be more auspicious and day is called as "Angarki chaturthi". These vratham is followed mostly in western and southern
parts of india and more specially in Tamil nadu and maharastra states.
IMPORTANCE OF SANKASHTI
CHATURTHI :
Seeing the moon is
considered as sacred ritual procedure followed these day. After the Sankashti
chaturthi moon rise, the fasting is ended. It is believed that all desires get
fulfilled on following vratham on Sankashti chaturthi day. There are 13 vrats
which completes perfect cycle Sankashti chaturthi vratham. And for every
vratham there is a different vrata story to be readed. “Adika” is the last
story which can be readed only once in four years.
PROCEDURE OF SANKASHTI
CHATURTHI VRATHAM :
The devotees who have
to follow Sankashti chaturthi vratham has to get up in the morning and worship
lord ganesha and follow the vratham/fasting procedure. People who follow the
fasting can eat roots of plant, fruits and raw vegetables. The firm diet
comprises of fresh potatoes, sabudana, peanuts. Sankashti
chaturthi pooja is done only after seeing the moon (chandrodaya ) time. Durva
grass and fresh flowers are brought to decorate the idol as it are things that
are liked by lord ganesha. And vratham story of that particular month is readed
and vratham is completed after seeing
the moon.
